Compass Pools, a pool designing company based in London, wanted to rethink the design of the iconic infinity pool. Usually, an infinity pool creates the illusion of a never-ending pool through the clever use of overflowing water and the horizon. When combined, the two elements make a seamless illusion of the water flowing off into the distance. While this is a luxurious design, Compass Pools wanted to take things up a notch. So, the team put together the Infinity London Project.
Compass Pools describes the Infinity London Project as, “the only building in the world to incorporate a 360-degree infinity pool.” While traditional infinity pools are still hard to come by, this 360-degree infinity pool is going to be one of a kind and very exclusive. No one has ever put together a pool that flows out from all four sides. The current design for the Infinity London Project is imagined as a luxury pool of nearly 160,000 gallons of water. The pool would be made up of acrylic glass, and the bottom of the pool would also be transparent. This would allow it to act as a skylight, and it also gives the curators a chance to change the colors of the surrounding lights and the pool itself at night. The location of the pool is probably the wildest part of the whole thing; it’s going on top of a 55-story hotel.
As far as getting in and out of the pool goes, designers have come up with a submarine-type doorway equipped with a stairway to allow users access to the water. It’s something straight out of a spy movie! The pool also utilizes a heating system to keep the water temperature comfortable among the clouds, as well as a wind control system to avoid splashing water on those walking down below. Even though the location of the pool is yet to be decided, people can still pretend they have our own infinity pools at the community center until then.
